Frequently Asked Questions

Updated 2025-05-01

All this is really free?

Yes, all this is really free!

If you absolutely must, you can buy me a coffee, but consider finding a better cause to donate to.

How often is this updated?

I'm finished with D&D 5e, and have moved on to running other games. These items are provided as-is for archival purposes only.

I've become especially fond of Monte Cook Games' Cypher System, and maintain Old Gus’ Cypher System Reference Document (OG-CSRD) and its related resources.

What if I have questions?

Ultimately, it is the DM’s role to make rulings and facilitate the game.

To DMs: I believe your actual, played game shouldn't be constrained by words on a page written by an absent author. If you come across a gap in the rules, or find something just isn't working, or something doesn't make sense—don't wait for an absent authority's approval, just make a ruling that fixes it. If your ruling is interesting, logical, or story-based, it’s probably a good one. You can always revisit things later.

However, if you need clarification on design intent, send an email to partario.flynn@gmail.com — It may take me some time, but I will do my best to get back to you!

Can I use this in my own homebrew?

Yes—provided your homebrew is also free to access, and does not include anything created with use of "generative AI" or "large language models (LLMs)" in any accompanying content.

In order to use this material, it can't be part of a crowdfunded effort, or sold on sites like Dungeon Masters Guild or DriveThruRPG, nor can it be part of for-sale packages for virtual tabletops (VTTs).

If you are using this material to publish your own versions, let me know at partario.flynn@gmail.com — be sure to add a link in your material to Old Gus’ Errata using the following URL: https://callmepartario.github.io/old-gus-errata

Is there a D&D Beyond or VTT version?

No.

If you are interested in creating such a thing, send an email to partario.flynn@gmail.com — It may take me some time, but I will do my best to get back to you!

Will you update for new editions of Dungeons & Dragons?

No.

Do you take commissions?

No.
